1. Regular Quit of FaceTime
Open the FaceTime app.
- From the top menu bar, click FaceTime > Quit FaceTime (⌘+Q).
- Make sure FaceTime no longer appears in the Dock or in Activity Monitor.
2. Temporarily Turn Off FaceTime
If you want to stop FaceTime from working without quitting it completely:
- Open the FaceTime app.
- From the top menu bar, click FaceTime > Turn FaceTime Off.
※ This will not quit the app but will prevent it from sending or receiving calls until you turn it back on.
3. Prevent Automatic Launch at Login
To ensure FaceTime does not open automatically when logging in:
- Open System Settings (older versions: System Preferences).
- Go to Users & Groups > Login Items.
- If FaceTime appears in the list of apps that open at login, select it and click the – button to remove it.
4. Force Quit
If FaceTime is not responding and you cannot quit it normally:
- Open Activity Monitor (found in Applications > Utilities).
- Use the search bar at the top to search for FaceTime.
- Select the FaceTime process and click the X button in the top left corner.
- Click Force Quit to forcibly stop the process.
Tips for Ensuring Complete Closure
- After each step, check your Dock and use Command (⌘) + Tab to make sure FaceTime is not listed among the open apps.
- Reopen Activity Monitor and confirm that no FaceTime processes are running.
