Key Causes for Installation and Activation Problems

  • User without installation permissions: A user without administrator (admin) permissions on the computer may not be allowed to install. This also applies to a computer belonging to an organizational network with security policy restrictions.
  • Antivirus and Firewall: May block the installation or operation of the system. Make sure to exclude the Vix and SEB applications. Check if ESET antivirus is installed on the computer.
  • Blocked Network: Website filtering systems, connecting to an encrypted work network, proxy, etc., may block the system. Consult with technical support or take the exam on a different network.
  • Windows not updated: The system may not function properly on computers that have not received regular Windows updates (Windows updates).
  • Unstable internet connection: A slow or unstable network can cause issues. It is recommended to use a wired internet connection.
  • Old hardware and operating systems: Ensure you have the required resources (see here: App Requirements).
  • Identifying details: When entering the exam, ensure the identifying details are entered correctly.
  • Camera/Microphone: Ensure they are working properly and have access permissions in Windows settings.
  • Background applications: Before starting the exam, ensure no other applications are open in the background.

SEB Errors

The Safe Exam Browser (SEB) is the component that enables locking the computer.

Errors that arise from its operation are usually related to permissions, or missing/corrupted/outdated Windows components. Here are possible error types and their solutions:

Installing SEB separately as a possible solution

If during the software download or after installation and entering the exam ID, an error message containing the word "SEB" appears (e.g., "SEB Couldn't open...." or "Problem downloading SEB"), please also install the following application and then try to download or open the system again:

Click here to download the SEB component

Note that SEB issues can also stem from an antivirus block, an outdated antivirus, outdated Windows, or insufficient user permissions on the computer.

Framework or C++ Error

If you encounter an error during the manual installation of the SEB component (such as a Framework or C++ error),

Example message:

You must install the following components according to the message received:
1. NET Framework 4.8 Runtime
2. Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime
3. Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistributable

If there is still an installation problem, also install:
4. Net framework 4.7.2 developer pack

After installation, try logging into the system again

SEB failed to start a new session

If you are using DigiExam software on your computer, read the following guide

The problem may stem from several reasons:

1. Other programs or services running in the background are preventing the SEB service from operating correctly.
Solution:
a. Restart the computer. This action often resolves the issue.
b. Try installing SEB separately from the following link.

2. Antivirus or firewall software may be blocking the process.
Solution: Add the SEB software to the antivirus exclusion list (the list of allowed programs).

3. Operating system issues:

  • Outdated operating system.
Solution: Ensure your operating system is up-to-date (Windows Update)
  • Missing or corrupted Windows components.
    Solution:
    a. Install the components mentioned in the previous section ("Framework or C++ Error") and restart the computer.
    b. If still not resolved, go to "Computer Settings" -> "Privacy & security" -> "Location", and toggle the "Let apps access your location" option to "On".

Afterward, try opening the software and entering the exam again.

After the exam, you can go back and turn the option off ("Off").

SEB window appears and disappears mid-exam

On HP computers - If during the exam, while answering questions, the VIX software disappears and an SEB window appears for a few seconds, and then the VIX software returns, try to uninstall the "OMEN Gaming Hub" program (which is usually pre-installed on HP devices) and see if the problem is resolved.

Other Error Messages

JavaScript

  • If the message is received on Mac computers, ensure correct installation of applications on Mac, as explained here.
  • If the message is received after a software update, try uninstalling and reinstalling.
  • If the message is received when opening the software, ensure there is no firewall/antivirus block.

The port used by the system is 8005

Note: If the error message indicates that this port is blocked, you must ensure that no other process is using it (such as an antivirus, etc.).

Invalid class

This error indicates a corrupt WMI component of the Windows operating system. This is a data management component that, even if corrupt, is not noticeable to the user until it is needed to run software like ours.
A link to a possible solution for the WMI component can be found here:

Or here:

Please note that we are only referring to possible solutions and do not take responsibility for the content or for user actions taken as a result of this referral. An error of this type is related to an operating system component, and the actions are the user's responsibility.

The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

If you receive the following error message during the software installation:

The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

Check if there is an antivirus on the computer that is blocking the installation of the SEB component.

If so, try to exclude SEB from the antivirus. Afterward, try to continue the Vix installation.

Alerts

The exam cannot start due to software running in the background

Before entering the exam:

A "locked" exam cannot be started when the following programs are running in the background:

  • Anydesk
  • TeamViewer
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Skype

Make sure to close them before opening the system. Ensure they are not running in the background even if the program windows are not open. The system will not allow any screen-sharing or remote-control software to run.

At the hardware check stage:

If an unauthorized program (one that may compromise exam integrity) is running on your computer, you will receive a notification on the hardware check screen: "The following unauthorized programs are in use and are preventing you from starting the exam" and the name of the program(s) running in the background will appear.

Note that even if the program is not actively open, it may have background processes running that must be closed.

See here for more details on the process and various options

System alert about user permissions

The user is required to check if they have installation permissions on the computer. After receiving permission, try downloading/installing again.

Permission denied to install from the directory

If this alert pops up during installation, ensure you have full user permissions for installation.

You can try moving the installation file to the Desktop or to the "My Documents" library and try installing again.

Network Issues/White Screen After Connecting

Working with a range extender

Range extenders can cause slowdowns, disconnections, or delays due to distance from the router, interference, address redirection issues, or incorrect settings. If you encounter a problem, it is recommended to disconnect the extender and move the computer closer to the main router.

Software Updates on Launch

We perform updates to the system frequently to improve it. It is possible that when you open the system, it will perform an update. You must wait for the process to finish; it is done automatically, and the system will open on its own upon completion.

Installation Takes Too Long/Is Not Progressing/Stuck

1. Wait about two minutes. Sometimes it takes a little time, depending on internet speed and other network factors.

2. Still stuck... Cancel the installation and try again. Try closing background applications such as browsers or any other applications that might be burdening the computer.

3. Ensure there are no antivirus/firewall blocks, and also that you have installation permission on the computer.

Software Installs Every Time it Opens

You may have downloaded the installation file to your desktop and are clicking on it instead of the executable file that is added to the desktop after installation.

Note that the installation file is called VIX-Installer, and the executable file is just Vix.

In any case, you can always find the executable file in the folder: C:\Program Files\TET

The executable file name: vix.exe.

It is recommended to create a shortcut for it for easy access from the desktop.

Mac Computers (MAC)

There are events unique to Mac computers. You can read about them in the next section
